BCRS: Beverage Container Return Scheme

Everyday & Singlish

The 10-cent deposit on bottled and canned drinks since 1 April 2026. You get it back when you return the empty container to a Return Right machine.

Since 1 April 2026, most bottled and canned drinks sold in Singapore carry a 10-cent deposit on top of the price. Return the empty container and you get the 10 cents back.

What counts: plastic bottles and metal cans from 150 ml to 3 litres that carry the deposit mark. Glass bottles and drink cartons are not part of the scheme.

How to get the 10 cents back:

  • Find a Return Right machine on returnright.sg (at supermarkets, malls and other public places).
  • Feed in empty, uncrushed containers one at a time; the barcode must be readable.
  • Choose your refund: SimplyGo EZ-Link or DBS PayLah!.

The scheme is run by BCRS Ltd under a licence from the National Environment Agency (NEA). Ten cents is small, but a kiasu household that gets through a 24-can carton a week is leaving $2.40 a week behind if the cans go in the bin.
