AWS: Annual Wage Supplement

Work

The “13th-month” bonus, usually paid in December. It is not required by law unless your contract says so.

The AWS is a one-off payment at the end of the year, often one month’s salary, which is why people call it the “13th month”. It is usually paid in December.

The Employment Act does not require it. You are entitled to AWS only if your employment contract or collective agreement says so; otherwise it is up to the employer. If your contract does include it and you leave mid-year, you may get a pro-rated amount.

AWS is taxable income, and CPF is deducted from it as an additional wage, so the amount that reaches your bank is lower than the headline figure.
